What is Young Judaea?

HISTORY

Located in Central Wisconsin, Camp Young Judaea Midwest has provided a Jewish camp experience for children in grades 2-9 for over 50 years. CYJ Midwest has a community of campers from across the spectrum of Jewish backgrounds. Campers come from over 10 states around the country, France, Israel, and Mexico to join our family of 130 campers per session. We offer a pluralist approach, which allows campers and staff to learn and grow together while making informed choices about their connection to Judaism and Israel.

THE YJ JOURNEY

For over 114 years Young Judaea has been inspiring Jewish youth of diverse backgrounds to become engaged leaders and inspired activists with a deep personal connection to Israel. CYJ Midwest campers begin as young as entering 2nd grade, and their camp journey continues through the leadership experience of Machon/Bogrim. High school students can continue on to the flagship teen camp, Tel Yehudah. Entering 10th graders can combine their TY experience with Avodah, and rising 11th graders can combine it with Hadracha, in both cases spending time at Midwest and at Tel Yehudah. Finally, entering 12th graders can come back to camp as MITs, Madrichim in Training, and cap off their summer by traveling to Israel with Young Judaea’s Gesher or continuing on as junior counselors at Midwest.

After high school, the YJ journey continues as graduates return to camp as counselors, learn with their peers during a gap year with Year Course, or continue to be involved in YJ year-round programming. The YJ Journey is lifelong: Young Judaea builds leadership skills, social responsibility, critical thinking, and a life-long commitment to Israel and leading change through their personal and professional pursuits.
